SynopsisThe writer Stephen Leacock sits in front of a typewriter in his study on a Hallowe’en evening during World War I. He is trying, unsuccessfully, to write an inspirational Christmas story to be published in the December issue of a magazine.Newspaper headlines screaming the latest atrocities of the war clutter his desk. As he struggles with his anger, disgust and hopelessness at the situation, he vehemently types the headline “Christmas Killed by Greed and War”.He is visited by Time, an all-knowing and immortal spirit who engages him in a discourse about his dilemma and his loss of faith in Christmas. In due course, Father Christmas himself appears. He is suffering from what was known during World War I as shell shock, and what we now call post-traumatic stress syndrome or PTSD. He has lost his way. He has been injured by land mines. His sack of books is torn and soaked, but he still drags it behind him. He has wandered for three years in death and darkness, searching for his beloved children, who are lost. He is terrified of every sight and sound. He - and Time - turn to the embittered writer to help Father Christmas find his lost children and resurrect the wounded hope of innocence.Visit the Production and Cast page for news about our exciting artists.
